Geography, people and climate
The Kingdom of Thailand is approximately the same size as France and lies in the heart of
South East Asia. The north is mountainous, forested and relatively unspoiled; the north
east has a large plateau that covers a third of the country while the south stretches
along the Gulf of Thailand bordered by wide open beaches.
Thailand has a population of around 60 million of which 6 million live in the capital
Bangkok. The country is a constitutional monarchy where the King is revered, with 94% of
the population being Buddhist.
Most Thai's speak a good smattering of English.
The climate in Thailand is tropical, with an avarage rainfall of 60 inches and an average
annual temperature of 33ºC.
Passport, visas and health
A full British Passport valid for a minimum of six months beyond your final departure date
is required and for holidays over 30 days stay - a visa is a necessity. Non-British passport
holders should check with the relevant Government Authority prior to departure.
Vaccinations are recommended.
Currency and credit cards
Thai Baht is the local currency. Sterling travellers cheques are widely accepted as
are all major credit cards.
Getting there
Bangkok is approx. 12 hours from the UK. Non-stop flights are available and stopovers in Dubai are popular.
