Organised from the Shandrani, for an additional cost, this activity holiday programme is open to all Beachcomber hotels. It is an original way of discovering the untouched, wild and fabulous nature of the southern part of the island, a region full of historical landmarks.

Activities can be modified due to climatic conditions and / or reservations.

Beachcomber Sport & Nature - Shandrani Hotel Mauritius Combining holidays with sport and leisure activities in perfect symbiosis with nature is now possible. Beachcomber Sport & Nature is a unique concept that is not aimed at sport performance but the practice of activities with friends and family according to individual fitness and rhythm.

Four activities are offered: mountain biking, canoeing, abseiling and hiking.

These disciplines are supervised by qualified guides who have followed intensive training. Moreover, special attention has been paid to safety. Every equipment has been carefully tested and a security dinghy equipped for sea safety and with modern means of communication supervises participants.

Typical Activity Programme

Historical Mahébourg - Cultural day
A 45 mins mountain bike ride to the village of Mahébourg where you will appreciate a guided visit to the naval museum and the local market · A picnic is organised on the banks of Rivière des Créoles next to the village · A 45 mins canoeing trip down the river will bring you to the striking site of Falaises Rouges.

Ile aux Aigrettes - Ylang Ylang - Environmental day
An hour of canoeing in the turquoise lagoon from the Shandrani Hotel to l'Ile aux Aigrettes · An hour of guided visit of the islet under the aegis of the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation · Back to the kayaks for another 45 mins through the historical bay of Vieux Grand Port to the Bois des Amourettes · Lunch is served at the Ylang Ylang restaurant · A light hiking in the domain to discover the aromatic flowers plantation.

Abseiling at Eau Bleue - Involving 3 activities
Abseiling on 3 different waterfalls of Eau Bleue River and picnic on the last one · 45 mins of mountain biking through sugar cane fields and pineapple plantation to the banks of Rivière La Chaux · A 2 km trip canoeing down the river to the clay kiln ruins next to the river's estuary.

Hiking at Eau Bleue Domain - For forest lovers
A morning hike of approximately 3 hours through the forest of Eau Bleue Domain · Picnic organised in the wilderness and a 4x4 off road trip in the afternoon will make you discover the inland of the South East of Mauritius.

Lion Mountain - For the trekkers
Half day trekking at Lion Mountain offering a panoramic view over the South East region.

Ylang Ylang Sport - For the fit ones
A 2h30 of canoeing across the lagoon to the historical Vieux Grand Port followed by an hour of cross country up the Lion Mountain and down to Ylang Ylang · Lunch is served at the restaurant · A 2 hour mountain bike trip will bring you back to the Shandrani Hotel.

Full day - departure 8:30am and return 5pm
Half day - departure 8:30am and return at 12:30pm for specific circuits
The activities can be modified depending on the climatic conditions and / or reservations.

Ile aux Aigrettes - Mauritius Ile aux Aigrettes is a 25 hectare islet under the protection of the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation.
It is a sanctuary for a variety of indigenous plants, animals and birds. A walking trail has been specially designed and will allow you to discover some rare species of the Mauritian flora and fauna.
The receipts deriving from these visits will be reinvested to finance the rahabilitation project.
