Ther resort of Medhufushi is closed due to the tsunami disaster. It is likely to remain closed for all of 2006. Standing on stilts above the opalescent waters of its coral lagoon, traditional timber and thatch villas catch the first light of sunrise. Ashore on the unspoilt
island are restaurants and a ribbon of white sand surrounding a forest of palms. On Medhufushi it's life in the slow lane - as near nirvana as it gets.
Designed in true Maldivian style, blending seamlessly with the landscape, the Medhufushi Island Resort is an exclusive and luxurious resort set in a tranquil, tropical location.
The island is only 890m by 105m with more than its fair
share of dazzling beaches. There's plenty of welcoming shade among the untouched tropical vegetation including palms, rubber plants, mangroves and scaevola trees.
The emphasis at Medhufushi is on simple relaxation and indulgence, so days can be whiled away soaking up the
sun on your private terrace, or diving in the magical underworld of the crystal clear waters of the lagoon. As the sun sinks below the horizon, join fellow guests in the bar with a refreshing tropical cocktail, before enjoying a sumptuous dinner that awaits in the main
dining room or Brasserie.
There is a lovely swimming pool with loungers liberally sprinkled around its sun terrace. Along with a gym and an excellent diving school, Medhufushi caters for just about every taste and interest, with activities on land or in the water, peaceful
and tranquil or active and exciting. The clear warm waters create the perfect opportunity for watersports such as windsurfing, water-skiing, canoeing and catamaran sailing. And in the evening there's occasional entertainment.
Accommodation The
120 villas are scattered around the island and in the lagoon. Each has air-conditioning, ceiling fan, satellite TV, IDD telephone, mini-bar, tea & coffee making facilities, safe, hairdryer and bathroom.

Beach Villa Suites feature a second bedroom plus a separate living area and a porch with Maldivian swing.
For
added luxury, there are 40 Water Villas, built on stilts over the lagoon. 4 Water Villa Suites have a living area and a second bedroom. All have the same comfort, with a terrace and sun deck, but they have indoor bathrooms.
