In 1972, an Italian travelling on a cargo ship was so impressed by the islands of the Maldives, that he organised, with a local company, to bring the first group of holidaymakers. The first holiday resort was Kurumba Village, part of Universal Resorts Maldives.

Holidays in Maldives

Choose Maldives holidays for an unspoilt, unhurried, get-away-from-it-all relaxing break, and dive in luxurious surroundings, barefoot and carefree.

From designer chic luxury holiday resorts to fun-loving all inclusive holidays, the Maldives offer a wide choice of hotels to choose from.

All resorts share the same basic romantic ingredients (sand, palm trees, turquoise waters), but each one has managed to create an individual identity that will appeal to a specific guest.

Holidays to the Maldives are most sough after by honeymoon couples, divers, atoll cruise holiday enthusiasts and spa & wellness aficionados, due to their secluded location, far away from the complexities of the world.

Each island has its own reef and shallow lagoon. With many quiet corners, the forgotten art of doing nothing is what Maldives prides itself on.

Most resorts boast water bungalows with jacuzzi or private plunge pool. Facilities include world class scuba diving, deep sea fishing, first class spa treatments, whilst all serve a delightful blend of east-meets-west cuisine enhanced by extraordinary wine cellars - complimented by discreet service.

Best time for Maldives holidays
The best time for holidays is during the dry north-east monsoon season from late December to April - The Maldives high season (when prices shoot up), with little rainfall and open blue skies. The tropical climate averages daily temperatures of 25C to 32C and high humidity around 75-80%.

The south-west monsoon season runs from May to November, and while temperatures are still high, the weather is less predictable, with sporadic rainfall, winds and cloud cover - You could have a clear blue sky over one island and a downpour over another. The weather can be at its worse in between seasons, November into December, and in the month of May.

Package holidays to Maldives are served by charter flights direct every Sunday ex Gatwick, with Monarch Airways (approximately 10 hours flight). Scheduled flights, with superior cabin facilities, can offer cheaper holiday rates most times of the year, if you are flexible on departure dates.

Tailor made travel arrangements
Scheduled flights to the Maldives connect via Dubai with Emirates Airlines, Doha (Qatar Airways) or Colombo (SriLankan) and offer Business Class upgrades. British Airways flies direct from Gatwick.

If you wish to extend your stay, then a two centre holiday with Dubai (and a duty free shopping spree), Sri Lanka or Singapore will offer a contrast of culture. If you cannot decide on the best island to suit your needs, a two centre, island-hopping in the Maldives, could be the answer.
